DiscoCat is for discovering, streaming, rating, and tracking musical artists and composers from the popular to the obscure. Discover and Explore • Search for artists (bands, musicians, composers, etc.), record labels, and creative works in external catalogs such as MusicBrainz • Shazam playing music to find the recording, release, and artist • Suggested Artists: discover many other artists that share the same genres as your favorite artists • Recent Releases: keep up-to-date with the latest releases from your favorite artists • Tap on a genre or tag to find other artists that share the same ones • View comprehensive artist discography, not just the ones with streaming contracts • Learn about all the current and former members of a band or find other bands an individual artist was/is in • List all the creative works of an individual songwriter, composer, lyricist, etc. • Find related artists such as cover bands, related releases such as tribute albums, and related record labels • List all tracks for a given release or release version and get details for each track including related recording and work • List all release versions optionally grouped by format (such as vinyl, CD, etc.) or release country • View detailed release album art and sometimes even images of physical media such as records, jackets, liner notes, etc. • Tap once on artwork to enter zoom then double-tap to toggle between zoom modes • See all the musicians, engineers, producers, and other recording personnel that contributed to a recording • Find the creative work associated with a track or recording and from there, find other recordings from other artists who also covered it • If you can’t find what you are looking for in the item details, most item types also include an extensive list of external links to related sites such as fan pages, music services, lyrics sites, etc. Stream • Apple Music or Spotify subscribers may stream any artist, release, or track that is found in those respective streaming catalogs without leaving the app¹ • Users without streaming subscriptions will still be provided with external links if it is found in the respective streaming catalog Rate and Track • Rate or simply bookmark any artist, release, release-version, track, recording, work, or record-label to save it to your collection³ • Your collection is stored on iCloud so it can be accessed on all platforms • Group your saved artists by genre or country or simply show all sorted by rating • Group your saved tracks by album or artist or simply show all sorted by rating • Group your saved releases by artist or genre or type or simply show all sorted by rating • Group your saved release versions by artist or country or format or simply show all sorted by rating • Search your saved items in any category • Several different rating schemes are supported such as 3, 4, or 5 star, out-of-ten, like/dislike, favorite, etc. Data Sources • Textual content is provided by various third-party databases such as MusicBrainz, Discogs, and TheAudioDB • All imagery except streaming-related is provided by TheAudioDB, Cover Art Archive, Discogs, and the Wikimedia Commons Image API • Streaming album art on now-playing bar and streaming sheet is provided by the streaming provider (Apple or Spotify) ¹ Spotify streaming may sometimes momentarily switch to the Spotify app and come back before playing due to limitations in the SDK ² Saving more than 10 of any item type (artist, release, etc.) requires an active subscription to the full version
